How to do Needlepoint Nobuko Stitch

Nobuko is a diagonal stitch with stitches of alternating sizes, and it is a great option for background areas.

The stitches, that alternate from short to long, go over one and over three canvas threads, respectively. This sequence is repeated for the entirety of the row, as shown in the diagram below:
