Nobuko is a diagonal needlepoint stitch with stitches of alternating sizes, and it is a great option for background areas.
Stitch Details
- Stitch Structure: Flat, Diagonal, Parallel
- Recommended for: Large areas, Backgrounds, Water, Skies
Nobuko Stitch Instructions & Diagram
You can see the diagram of this stitch below.
- Secure your thread on the backside of the canvas by making a small knot and insert the needle from the back of the canvas to the front at the starting point
- Move vertically to the next canvas intersection, forming a vertical stitch. Insert the needle from the front to the back
- Insert the needle back into the canvas hole below the first stitch
- Make a diagonal stitch parallel to the previous one, skipping three canvas intersections
- Repeat the steps alternating between a stitch that skips one canvas intersection and a stitch that skips three canvas intersections
- All stitches in a row must be made at the same level
