Featured Product of August 2020: Glacial Pools

Hello creative friends!

We are trilled to finally launch our Featured Product of the month of August 2020: our Glacial Pools canvas/kit - currently discontinued.

The canvas design is by Brooke Thorn McGowan, founder of Thorn Alexander, and we can't tell you how much this collaboration means to our small business!

Brooke is one of the most important needlepoint designers in the industry. Not only because her work is amazing (and it's always sold out!), but how impactful she has been to the overall needlepoint community. Since the beginning of the creation of her business, she intended to give back to the world. By her words: "she strives to inspire humans of all ages to ignite their creative potentials while helping make waves in intersectional environmentalist efforts".

With the support of her customers, she has been able to donate a portion of her profits and products "to a variety of initiatives that empower education and our planet. These initiatives include Flying Kites, The Leo Project, Best Buddies, The National Women’s Law Center, Mission Blue, Exxpedition, Youth Build Boston, Kenyan Drylands Education Fund and The Vermont Community Garden." (from here)

More recently, Brooke has been an active advocate of the Intersectional Environmentalism (IE) movement. Being a cause that we also identify ourselves with, then the opportunity to create something together needed to come up!

So, when buying this Glacial Pools printed canvas, you are also contributing to 10% of the sales being donated to this IE organization: intersectionalenvironmentalist.com/

And what is Intersectional Environmentalism?

Created by Leah Thomas, a young, Black female environmentalism, this new movement fights to dismantle of systems of oppression in the environmental movement. From the Intersectional Environmentalism website, you have the following definition:

Intersectional Environmentalism is an inclusive version of environmentalism that advocates for both the protection of people and the planet. It identifies the ways in which injustices happening to marginalized communities and the earth are interconnected. It brings injustices done to the most vulnerable communities, and the earth, to the forefront and does not minimize or silence social inequality.

If you want to learn more, and also support this organization directly yourself, by subscribing to their Patreon or to donate, you can access their support platform.

"Financial support for Intersectional Environmentalist goes towards building community and topic pages, paying BIPOC writers for personal essays, supporting future IE programming, and more."

Lastly, this collaboration and product support is part of our renewed commitment to a better world. If you want to learn more about it, access our About Us section.

Happy Stitching!

Love,

Cristina & Brooke
